I do want to say, though, that in my experience, men don't have the exclusive rights to stupidity. That is actually an equal-opportunity problem. Look at Mrs. Spitzer, standing by her man. That is a pretty stupid position to take if you want to get the message out that your husband is being stupid! And if you don't want to get that message out, you're saying what he did is ok. Stupid.
