My dog likes to go (springer spaniel) but I tend not to take him on backpacking trips because I spend much of my time in Grizzly country where it's a bad idea, or places where it's mountain caribou habitat and dogs are really really really a bad idea. I've never taken
him on much more than an overnighter though, so I couldn't comment on that part.
