Chaz,

After using the new REI Cruise UL 60 last night with a 45 lb. load (5 lb. overloaded) for a 1 hour hike I'd day it is definitely a comfortable pack. Not quite as comfortable as my Dana Terraplane - but then the Terraplane weighs 7.5 lbs. EMPTY! While the Cruise UL 60 weighs only 3.7 oz. by my scales.

The newer REI UL 60 is a great pack, especially for $130. With the older UL 60 I had to put REI side pockets on the pack for extra space. Now, with the larger Cruise version, I doubt I'll need them. If I do it may be just one pocket strapped horizontally across the back or on the top flap pocket. This newer pack lacks the neat "moving" shoulder strap lower attatchments which I liked but it's improved durability means I won't have to wince every time the pack scrapes a rock or Manzinita tree. Lots to like in this pack.
