I use a compass (the one on my phone!) inside buildings way more than in the boonies. Especially in large malls, airports, and office buildings. The next most often on lakes, sailing or paddling. It's easy to miss points in open water.
This is why I don't haul a fancy compass in the boonies. I use the whistle on my compass...for signaling...more than the compass.
