The only difference between men and women on the trail are that men are NOT socialized to imagine that their gender makes a difference in their safety. Women are trained to believe that they are somehow at more risk than men. That may be so in the heart of New York City or Los Angeles, but going into the wilderness? Fuggetaboutit. Pay attention and prepare for the usual risks inherent in outdoor travel, ignore comments about "little girls" and have fun. Prove the sexist comments are wrong. Because they are.
