My own experiences (years ago)-- we had tents wtih a little half-moon zip on the tent floor. This was supposed to be for cooking in the tent (stove and pot on ensolite, on the snow), but we used it for a "pee hole" too. When it is -40 degrees F, it does not smell. When living in snow caves, we built them with a little "room" off the entrance that was a latrine. When on skiis - just squat down on your skiis (you will sink into oblivion if you get off your skiis). Snowballs are far superior to TP. Pay attention to the wind direction! You learn to do #2 quickly. If you have seen winter skiiers with the frost on the beard - well, this also happens pretty quickly on your you know where.
