Proving a point is not a good reason to go stoveless, or at least not IMO. Reasons to consider the no-stove approach include:
  • Lighter weight (if metabolism not cranked high and pack efficient foods)
  • Less bulk (no stove, fuel, pot, etc to carry), again depending on foods carried
  • Time efficient, less fiddle-factor: just grab food, eat, and you're done, no prep, cleanup, etc
  • Never worry about how much fuel you have, nor how to resupply on fuel
  • No cooking scents, if that concerns you (though of course having food out at all certainly generates some scent ... certainly to include the foil tuna packets I eat out of ...)

To be clear, I'm not striving to convert anyone; I just seriously think that "no-cook" is a logical progression for some, once a bit of mental adjustment, a shift in expectations takes place.

For those that do opt to carry a stove, I totally agree with Lori on the Fancy Feast stove; just look up Andrew Skurka's description of how to make one of these, dead easy, fast, cheap, and very effective.
