I have family spread along the east coast from New Jersey down to Virginia, and am trying to organize a family Appalachian Trail hike.
It seems to me, looking at the map, that maybe hiking from Charlottesville, VA to Frederick, MD would be great, but cannot seem to find a way to accurately measure the distance so that a time frame can be made as we'd all have to coordinate time off, and it needs to be reasonable as half of us have small children.
Can anyone direct me to a site to best measure the distance/time for the AT? I'm assuming about 7-10 miles a day ought to be fairly reasonable giving us plenty of time for smelling flowers, checking out lizards, and, oh yea, checking out the scenery and taking pictures.
Thanks in advance!
