I think our pints are the same size but I went to the outdoor store the other day and bought a pair of hiking socks I picked out from the discount bin and when I got em home I discovered that they were XL I thought I was a L. So I put em on and they fit. You know what they say about big feet.

Ahh but they are different:

versus:

The difference being that prior to 1824 the wine gallon was used everywhere which was the volume of eight merchant pounds of wine, alternatively the volume of a cylinder 6 inches deep and 7 in diameter . The ale gallon, (the volume of 10 pounds of distilled water) was adopted by the George IV in 1824 - thus rewarding his loyal subjects with larger pints of beer - since a pint is 1/8 of a gallon in either system. Those who had rebelled against his father in 1783 never got the change, and stayed with the old smaller gallon (and pint).

Hence the reason we canadians are so happy, we get larger beers, and a nissan xterra gets 30 miles per gallon in canada
