So I am a total newbie to this forum and backpacking. I've done a few day hikes but I am ready to start going on night hikes and even multi day ones. So much so that I've made a new goal to hike PCT in 2017 or 2018.
Being new means my day to day friends are not really into my new life style. Because of this I am looking for hiking buddies (Alberta Canada) to do possibly a hike at least once a month (big dreams). Plus I am going to need some hiking companions for PCT, can be from anywhere in the world really.
Hope to hear from anyone who has suggestions. thanks

Welcome. Hiking is a great pastime and if you stick with it you can get a lifetime of enjoyment from it. We've got many members who are in their 70s and still backpacking.

Keep looking for hiking partners, especially now as you are just learning the ropes. It's better to work your way in gradually, because you'll be learning new stuff every time you stretch yourself a bit beyond what you've already done, and you're probably not ready for the deep end of the pool quite yet.

It's all about enjoying the wild outdoors, so enjoy!

I would hit some of the local outdoor stores (not Canadian Tire) and see if they have bulletin boards or offer classes. If you have an MEC near you, check with them. A local uni might have a club, even if you aren't in school, you may find some fellow campers. You might also find some like-minded folks through Meet Up or Craigslist. Sierra Club and similar organizations usually offer day hikes and perhaps multi-day hikes depending on which chapter it is. Looks like there is a chapter in Edmonton.
