Got a quick trip planned to the Smokies next week and want to get in a day hike. Looking for something moderate and around 6 miles, give or take.

Newfound Gap up the AT to Charlie's Bunion. 4 miles north, 8 round trip. You could stop for lunch coming or going at Icewater Springs Shelter, 3 miles from Newfound Gap.

Deepends what you want to see. There are many nice day hike to various water falls that I did 2 years ago. Rainbow falls grotto falls etc. Do search on yahoo great smokie mnts nat park there website has a wealth of info. However, I will be there hiking newfound gap to Kephart shelter next Thursday. Then Back way from Kephart to Ice water via charle Bunion on the way . Then to Mt Leconte on Sat/ If your gonna be in the area give a hollor. Bye the way many roads are due for closure in GSMP for construction. The web site will tell which ones will be closed and the dates. http://www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm
