I was browsing the bargain fabrics at my local Walmart today, and found some muslin. It was marked $1.50.
When it was being cut and priced, the clerk told me that there were to no longer be any $1/yard fabrics anymore. Inflation.
Anyone else been to Walmart Fabrics in the last couple of days?
It was bad when the grocery store had their fresh baked cookies go from $.32 to $.45 each, but $! TO $1.50 is even greater inflation.

Many Walmarts are phasing out their fabric departments entirely. The $1/yd stuff was wholesale fabric end runs bought in lots, then divided randomly among stores. The department managers never knew what was coming. If you want anything you see there, grab it. It may be all gone the next time you shop.

My wife sews a lot and has been fed up with Wal-Mart's selection (and prices) for a long time. Our local Hancock Fabrics closed a little while back and the only other "discount" fabric store in this part of the state closed shortly after that. The only other store in this area is Hobby Lobby. She went and opened her own fabric store (both storefront and online). This reply isn't a pitch for her store or anything, but her prices are quite a bit cheaper than both Wallyworld and Hobby Lobby both. She actually sells more online and the store is more for someplace for her to store her stuff. I've had to give up part of the space in my photography studio so that she could have the room.
Everything at Wal-Mart is going up in price. Used to be, that is where we shopped because it was what we could afford...but anymore, even "normal" people can't afford them now.

I was just at my local Wally World (Silicon Valley Area) and they still have fabric on hand. The shelfs were just about empty and was told they are shutting down the $1 a yd shelf. But 2 weeks ago it was refill which had 3 different colors of Ripstop - coated and uncoated. I like the uncoat for tarps( coat it with Silicone formula) and Coated- breathable for Clothing, Quilts and bivy bag ( tops)
Also have found tent flooring material - Poly coating.
Scott I say mention the name of your wife's store so we can check it out If she carries some of the items folks here use then it's no different than me mentioning thru hiker's place

OK, I don't know if I should really do this or not, but here it is. My wife's online store can be found here. Right now, she doesn't carry anything for us backpackers really, but if there is something that you're looking for, just ask her and she'll see if she can find it and give you a reasonable price.
See Scott, that did'nt hurt did it? Yardage, that's the future Man, yardage for MYOG

That fabric comes from a big fabric outlet here in Dallas called Golden d'Ore. Walmart must be buying their overage because I've tried buying it from the source with no luck. I've bought over 40 yards of sil-nylon at Walmart for $1 a yard! Not all Walmarts participate. There are three here within 5 miles and only one has the discount table. I suspect the price will go up with fuel costs.
