My wife and I hiked from the Hoh river to Cape Alava on the coast of the Olympic National Park last week; a pretty fine place to go for snow-free backpacking, about a 40-mile trip.

I've done a bit of coast hiking before, in Oregon, but found this particular trip to be overall more dangerous than average backpacking. Partly due to creek crossings just given the time of year, but in general a lot of very slippery rock struck me (well, not literally struck me, fortunately) as a very easy way to get hurt, especially if feeling at all pressed for time due to tide constraints.

Bottom line is that, paradoxically, while we liked it a lot, I'm not sure we'll be inclined to do a whole lot more of it!

FWIW, I shoe-horned a trip report for this into my overall trail journal for this year, starting here.
