I'm looking for some ideas. I tried 2" black pvc pipe, even drilled it full of holes, plenty strong but just too heavy. I need something to protect my 2 piece, 5'6" ultra-light trout rod. I appreciate the cloudburst of ideas that I know is comming. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Dla,
Have you looked at Map cases at the stationary stores. Some are light plastic tubes, also Core-plex rolled up then duct tape together and add caps( same material as the white Post Office / Office mail binds).

I have used the plastic tubes that long strands of jerky/candy come in. I get them from the local mom/pop shops, 7-11, etc. Frequently I get them for free, never paid more than a buck for them. Clean them out and they're ready to go.

Thanks folks. I finally got down to Home Depot and picked up a couple 4' light tube covers. They are sooo much lighter than the drilled black 2" black pvc I was using. A 4' tube cover weighs 4oz. My pvc creation weighed 1.5 lbs.
The only end caps available were the "innies". No luck finding the "outties" I had seen on the web.
Now I need to come up with a lightweight lure box. I was thinking of something with styrofoam for the hooks and a quart freezer bag for the container.
