Forget the combat knife idea-one of the worst suggestions I've ever seen posted here.

You can rent a PLB or SatPhone for a week. But, if this woman is a newby, and it sounds like it, the suggestion to send her to NOLS or another wilderness school for a week is the best idea so far.
