I'm not an expert on the subject, or whether these are ideal for your situation, but Frenchie's post caught my eye. I have a pair of these Ridge Scorpions which are an update of the traditional French jungle boot mentioned above. I have put them through the ringer (playing woods "action pursuit" games, not really hiking) and have yet to have them fail on me. They have lasted me a couple of years. At $40 (!!!) you can't beat them. Unlike most similar priced jungle boots such as chinese knockoffs of Altama ripple sole, which I have seen come apart after a few uses.

I would recommend adding some cushioning inserts to them though, they don't come with much.
