King's Peak in Utah was named for Clarence King. I don't know if he was there or if the peak was named because he was head of the US Geological Survey. A lot of mountains get named for people who were never there, but at least Mr. King was a lot closer to King's Peak than Mr. Hood (of the British Admiralty) ever was to Mt. Hood!
