Your post is my sentiments exactly. There is Light, there is UL and there is "Psycho-Lite". I'm a Lightweight guy W/ a 2008 REI Cruise UL pack & REI side pockets, WM Megalite bag and TT Moment tent.
All in all I'm comfortable on the trail with 30 lbs. of gear, water and food for 7 days.

And I'm very comfortable in camp with my ancient full length Thermarest Lite of 12 years, my one non-light item at 15 oz.
