It's truly God's country, Patrick! Of course in the Pacific Northwest we also have a few sections of old-growth forests left that make eastern trees look like saplings! You can enjoy both forests and alpine out here! Of course you have to be willing to climb quite a few thousand feet between the two, lol! Watch trip reports for an old-growth trip I'll be doing in a week or two.

Here's a pic taken in Wyoming's Wind River Range two years ago. Even though it's not quite above timberline, it's in the no-fire zone. The idea is to let whatever dead wood there is decay to replenish the thin soils there.

There are some combination stoves, a bit heavy, which can used with either an alcohol burner or wood, using the same windscreen/pot support for either. That would be ideal for what you want and let you use wood where it's legal. If you can make a lighter version of a combination wood or alcohol stove than what Trail Designs or Titanium Goat offers, I just might be knocking at your door!
