Someone suggested EBay as a source of inexpensive gear, I found sevral backpacks under $100 and under 3 lbs, they are of quality construction as well. Conscus is one brand and K-cliffs is another. My son uses a K-Cliffs but it only fits up to 15" torso, he will outgrow it this year but we have two youngsters who we could pass it on to. Campmor's 20 deg down bag is highly rated on BackpakingLite.com so I would not knock it. Also Eureka has a website where they sell seconds and refirbs cheap. I got a solitude for $25!
