Excellent article, Jim. I don't have any personal experience or extensive knowledge in this area, since I've never had to spend any time in such situations. However, you echo most of what I've read and seen others do, and the advice I've read in the BSA Fieldbook. (Although many BSA publications leave a lot to be desired, the Fieldbook is generally well-written and useful, though it's probably due for another updating soon.)
