Several years ago I started wearing Nike StrapRunners and haven't looked back. There is nothing in them to smell and I do run in them. Strap Runners are much more open than Keen's or what I call "hybrid" (cross between a trail runner and a sandal) shoes.

Only thing is, I don't hike in sandals anymore. Too many sticks jammed under my toes and into my feet. Trail dirt and stick wounds don't mix when you are miles from help.
