I am thinking about a couple days backpacking along trail at pictured rocks national lakeshore in July with my wife. Would be her first overnight. Can you fill me in on what it is like up there that time of year? Would be July 4th plus couple days. What is the trail like?

Trails are good. Almost impossible to get lost. Quit crowded at that time of year. Black flies should be gone by then.Must camp at designated sites. Permits required and could be a problem at that time of year. I think that you can get permits ahead of time but that has changed a couple of times. Great trail for beginners and the scenery is great. Any specific questions I would be glad to answer if I can. I have hiked it several times and have volunteered for the spring clean up crew a few times.
