I am new to this website. I have been backpacking for the last 3 months or so (mostly Angeles National Forest) I have all my own gear and plus extra backup gear. I am on here because I am looking for a hiking/backpacking partner. Normally, I hike out a friday night, and come back on a sunday. I have all weekends off from work and have no problem driving a little ways for a fun adventure.
A little about myself, I am 24, got a new trail dog (around 4 months old) and work full time. I used to race downhill mountain biking until I ripped my ACL, had surgery and been backpacking since then. Pretty much all my friends aren't able to make it out for weekend trips due to them working all of the time. It would be pretty cool to find a few people that are more available for some backpacking trips. Once I get to the camping destination, I enjoy drinking a beer and hanging around the campfire to keep it fun!
There are roughly a kajillion hiking groups online based in California, a lot of them on meet up, some not.
You'll find that a lot of them are based in LA. Though you won't be able to take the dog on any of the national park hikes, and some of the state park hikes, you should be able to find plenty of national forest outings with groups.

Welcome, sorry you live "down there". Up north "here", I can leave for FS roads from my yard, being across the crick from NF land. The PCT is a short 10 minute drive from home with the Bucks Lake Wilderness there. Most of the folks I've bped with have moved on, split up from our small forum/Yahoo group. Life gets in the way I guess. I still do a few trips a year with folks I met there, but back to mostly solo bping and camping trips as I collect old stoves and to get some use out of them, I go out more. Good to see younger folk getting out, too bad about the mb injury, I collapsed a lung and cracked three bones maybe 12 years ago a few miles from home on my mb. A overnight stay in the hospital to let the lung reinflate. Fun. Duane
Although I typically backpack as part of my job (USMC), perhaps I could join the group in the near future and participate as well. I don't know of any trails or sites in SOCAL, but I just joined this forum to fix that.
