I really don't like sitting on the ground. It can be a struggle to get up. The lightweight stools aren't very comfortable. I can't always find a fallen tree etc. I just saw this chair on Big Agnes website https://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detail/Accessory/HelinoxChair I was curious if anyone has tried it. I wonder if these are actually sturdy enough. It says it can hold 320 lbs. I don't weigh near that but I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with these. I have seen some friends use the alite 2 leg chairs sometimes with rather humorous results. I like the idea of a lightweight real chair.
I agree, I am surprised it can handle that much weight. The Alight is rated to 250 lbs and looks stronger to me. It could be a difference in how they are rated. Also, are you aware Alight makes a similar 4-legged model?
this monarch chair weighs 21 ounces - the same as an old crazy creek sit on the ground and squeeze you chair. The aluminum frame is said to hold 250 pounds. It has 2 feet not 4 and is somebetter on ground that is not level than the 4 legged one, and lots lighter apparently. Jim

The monarch version takes some skill to get used to. Several friends have it and usually after ten minutes or so they are laying on their back or sitting on the ground. They do provide entertainment for the rest of us though.
So Dave were you guys where its level? Were they leaning back against something? I can see where tent camping you should be a in a spot level enough for the 4 legged model. Now a one legged stool will keep you on your toes. I'm always leaning back in chairs anyway and people worry about me breaking the 3rd and 4th legs so maybe 2 legs is what I need.
If you don't want to fall over and don't mind sitting on the ground you can forego the aluminum frame and carry a crazy creek chair or a thermarester chair. Jim

Generally level sometimes on small slopes. Once a friend was leaning against a tree and somehow lost his balance and landed on his back. I like to lean back as well so I am concerned that I might break the back legs off a 4 legged model as well.
I am with you jim. I always lean back with 4-legged chairs and the sit on the ground chairs. Once I realized that I stopped being concerned about the monarch only having 2 legs. I bought it this year and am very happy with it. Much nicer to sit in than the convert your mattress into a chair setups (plus I don't have to worry about popping my mattress. Worth the weight penalty to me.
I've had the Alite Monarch chair for more than a year and have never had a problem falling over. In fact have taken a nap in it a couple of times. Just keep your legs out front and you won't fall backward. I am interested in the Helinox Chair as a lightweight car camping replacement for the normal sling chairs that take up so much room in the cargo box. With a seat height of 13.5 vs 8 inches for the Alite 4 leg version it seems like a chair worthy of a look.
