Hi guys,
well my 3,000th post is coming up. Anyone have any suggestions for a topic? Anything I can entertain you with, a story perhaps, or a technical article, like "other uses for GPS than hiking" or some technical question about rock climbing, off trail hiking, or?
Jim

How about descriptions/trip reports of some good but not too strenuous (say 5-7 mile) hikes in the Bend/Sisters area? I either hike in the Gorge, around Mt. Hood or up in Washington (where my son #3 and family live), aside from the yearly trip to Wyoming. I've got to go south for a change!

Looks like I recently hit 2,000-you're way ahead!

Mouse,
I haven't lived here long enough to know this area like Donner Summit, but I do know of some good hikes here.
Walk around Elk Lake.
Hike up the "fossil river bed" on Hiway 20 at Horse Canyon 20 miles east of Bend, it has an awesome Eagle nest.
Hike from Devils lake to the top of the South Sister.
Hike from Todd Lake up to Green Lake which sits in the saddle between Broken Top on One side, and the Three Sisters on the other.
Drive up to Three Creeks Lake and hike the Tam McArtur Rim.
Closer to you are the alpine lakes on the west side of Mt Jefferson in Jefferson Wilderness.
The headwaters of the McKenzie River where Bigfoot and I have been going.
Speaking of which BF and I are going to Tenas Lakes Wednesday and the TH is 5 miles west of the Dee Wright Observatory at the summit of McKenzie Pass hwy 242.
The Three Sisters Wilderness as well as Jefferson and Mt Washington Wilderness all have lots of hiking including a long stretch of the PCT.
And I would be remiss to leave out Smith Rock Park with its grand cliffs and soaring eagles.
Jim
