I thought last Spring that the Coleman canister I bought was messed up, as the first time I used it with my Pocket Rocket, very little fuel came out. I unscrewed the PR, reattached it and it worked fine. That evening. Had to do it all over again the next morning and this was the morning I had to start a three night trip. So anyway, I finally used up the Coleman branded fuel since that was all I could get at the time and switched to a brand new MSR blended fuel canister last weekend. I had to unscrew the PR twice over the weekend to get it to work as no fuel or very little would come out until I did this procedure. Anyone else have this issue? I can't send it back to MSR yet as I still have another trip or two that I can use it on this Fall until it cools down and I can then switch to my Internationale. I could take it back to REI, but I feel I should deal with MSR directly.

I'd be looking inside the burner - you probably have a build up of crud. I did this twice to a Primus stove of mine using Glo Master fuel. A friend of mine unscrewed the burner off and basically picked out the carbon junk, it worked like new after that.

Caveat what sarbar said, have a quick look for crud, calling MSR for stove service is usually not painful at all, so if you go to their web site and look for the service link and give them a call, they usually treat you really well. I've never had any trouble with little stove bits from them (often free)

I know I've even gone as far asking if anything could be done with my demolished late 80's vintage xgk that I use for hunting camps when the fuel line was busted completely off. they said to send it in, and basically rebuilt the whole thing for the ridiculous price of 25 dollars - so I basically now have a "new" 1989 vintage xgk made from shop spares I guess..

anyway, if you do end up dealing with MSR, I can say nothing but good things about their customer service, so if you aren't particularely mechanically inclined I'm sure you can send it in and it'll come back working great.

Never had this happen, so I'm making a wild guess. Is there any chance there's some cross-threading or stripped threads that keep the stove from seating properly and, as a result, the valve on the canister doesn't open right?

Thanks all, I'm fairly meticulous with important gear. No cross threads, I'll take a deep down look, never have seen any gunk with a quick view. Just wondered if there was anything inside, they are pretty simple. I'm at work so I will look this weekend.

MSR service is great. They get to 'rebuild' my XGK and Dragonfly every four years or so for that $25 fee. Not a bad deal to get a stove back to almost new condition.

They even sent me free orings for the pump on the XGK when I asked nicely.

A lot of companies could benefit from doing things the way MSR does. Even when they forgot to ship one of my stoves back in a timely fashion, they were honest "Got lost on the shelf" and got it back ASAP.

Still felt good about dealing with them after that.

I got burner rings/spacers a few years ago for my Internationale, no charge. Then they replaced my NeoAir this Spring, no charge except shipping for the damaged one. I'll email them this weekend after I get home if I can't see anything to clean out.

I suspect the center pin on the bottom of the stove that pierces the Lindal valve is too short.

Just a guess.

Someone this Spring mentioned maybe the canister valve, which is along the same line as the pin being too short, had no issues the first couple years I have had the stove. Just started this Spring on the night before a trip along the CA Lost Coast. Maybe the rubber washer has gotten fatter. I'll have to look closer this weekend when I get home.
