Just curious how and where you all put your stakes in your pack. I use MSR Ground Hog stakes and usually just tie them up with a guyline and shove them in the bladder pocket in my pack. I use the pocket for organization rather than my camelbak since it's so hard to get it in and out of there with a full pack. Anyway, do you guys use a small sack for your stakes? do you pack them with your tent?

I use the small sack that they came in and I place them, along with the poles, into the center of the tent when I roll it up.

If you're using a tent, Rolling them in the tent makes a lot of sense.

I use MSR needle stakes, and these can be stacked point-to-head with a rubber band to hold them in place such that there's no sharp point exposed --- so in that configuration I can toss them anywhere. I find this handy when I'm using a poncho-tarp, but with an actual tent --- just roll 'em up inside.

I usually drop them into the little stake bag that comes with the tent, and drop that bag into the bag with the tent poles. The pole bag packs separately from the tent. I've never had an issue with a stake poking a hole in either bag. (And yes, I realize I could get rid of both bags - I could also get rid of the two stuff sacks I use for the tent and fly. I'm willing to carry the extra 3 ounces - and I'm a borderline gram-weenie!)

I use the stuff sack that the stakes came in with the exception I roll the stakes in a small light weight pack towel. This not only covers them up so friction from the stakes on something else is not an issue. Also, I have had stakes to rattle a little in my pack before and this eliminates that too!!!Hope that helps....sabre11004...

I do the same thing you do - I stick them in the hydration sleeve in leu of a water bladder. I chucked the baggie they came in and just brush off the dirt, then put them in point side up. My tent pole is short and fits in there too.
