So Hiking Dog Molly did a bit of an experiment. I got to thinking about my daypack gear and how I've really not changed anything about the setup in years. Why is this? Well because unlike my backpacking gear that gets constantly tested and refined my daypack gear normally doesn't leave my pack since most of it is for emergencies. Well I've never had to be stuck out overnight so the kit itself(not necessarily individual gear) has never been tested. So we purposely stayed out overnight to test our gear. Sore, hungry, and thirsty afterwards for sure but we survived. Video of our experience below.

An excellent idea! Around here in the Pacific NW, it would be more realistic to test my overnight emergency gear on a wet night and probably in a bit cooler than temps in the 50s. Also, you never did say if the flashlight worked or not.

Thanks. And the flashlight did work. You can see it flash in the video when I hit the button. I carry spare batteries for it but never really think to make sure it hasn't bit the dust. I think we've all had at least one flashlight that just decided to stop working for seemingly no reason.

I've been thinking about doing this for years, but never got around to it. A good idea, and I need to actually follow my own advice!!! smile
