I have narrow and low volume feet so I researched which boots are appropriate and found one that feels like it fits like a glove, the Asolo Fugitive GTX. They feel perfect on flat ground and I dont slid forward in them downhill, going uphill they seem to rub just above my heel. I have had them out for one test hike, 3 miles or so and I had blisters on the back of both feet above my heel pad. I wore liner socks under my wigwams, I didnt put in my superfeet yet.

I am wondering if the "Heel cup" is to deep, it feels like they are trying to round over your heel to keep it from slipping but that creates a pressure point going uphill. Or is this the product of needing more break in time?

Thank you very much for any help I get.

Had this problem once and in my case, a straight replacement of the same boots solved the problem. The heel cups dug into my Achilles, above my heel itself. Have had heel blisters from the shoe/boot rubbing, especially heading uphill, but this was a different problem.

Tape can sometimes help before a blister forms, but afterwords it seems too late.

Good luck,

That's why I don't wear boots! I wear trail runners with extra narrow heels and a wide and high toe box. No more blisters!

You should also experiment with different combinations of socks. I wear a thin pair of very soft socks, and then outside of that a pair of heavy hiking socks.

And I literally cannot remember getting a blister with that combination.

“I wore liner socks under my wigwams”
Heat, moisture, and friction will cause blisters. If you can eliminate 2 of them, you’ll probably have it cured. With boots and wigwams you’re bound to have heat and sweat (moisture). And if you can eliminate the 3rd element (friction), blisters will be stopped.

It’s all in the footwear and sock. I have a distaste for boots (except winter) because they seem to be the culprit of the majority of foot health problems while backpacking. But I have a limited view of just dealing with 100’s of beginners.

i have the asolo gtx boots and it took close to a month of day hikes to break them in but when i did ohh boy i never go off trail without them. the point is maybe you just got to spend some time breaking in the boot if you want to use it. i have herd some people going on hundred miles worth of day hikes to get them blister free.
