I'm looking for advice on a 2 day trip. I live in NJ but am willing to drive a bit for a cool spot. I have all my gear for an overnight. I ordered a few books on NJ hiking but they have not arrived. Can anyone give me advice on a nice scenic loop trip? I really don't know where to start on planning my own trip. I have only done day hikes so far but am really looking forward to my first overnight.

Lower Catskills, such as Slide, Panther Mt. accesed by roads off of 17. The always popular Water Gap Hikes like Sunfish Pond or Stokes State Forest. Bear Mt. and Harriman State Park are good overnighter choices , too. Harriman is a good choice for newbies. Not a far ride from most of NJ. I grew up in NJ, but have been gone for a long time. Southern Jersey has the Batona trail out of Batsto State Forest, but despite the unique flora and fauna it's not as interesting to me because of the flat terrain. Any hike in NJ or close proximity would be better done on weekdays to avoid some of the crowds.
