MAKE YOUR OWN VESTIBULE
for the SD Divine Lightning Tent

Contributed byGreg Lang, 3/2000

Introduction

I have created what I feel to be a wonderful accessory vestibule for the Sierra Designs Divine Lightning solo tent.

My goal was to create an add-on vestibule for this tent with the following characteristics:

  • lightweight
  • provide full weather protection for open tent door
  • provide space for pack, boots, and cooking
  • use one trekking pole for support
  • use minimal additional stakes/guylines

Vestibule Pattern

Description

It is sort of a modified wing structure constructed out of a single piece of 1.9oz polyurethane coated ripstop nylon. I used this material because it is relatively easy to work with and I trust it's durablity. If sil-nylon was used the weight would no doubt be significantly reduced. It attaches to:

  • (2)of the tent's stake loops with two fixed lengths of cord/clips
  • the main pole with a padded binder clip (surprisingly strong)
  • a guy line running from the ground to a fabric cup where
the grip of the trekking pole is nestled Specs:

  • weight-10oz (in 1.9oz coated material)
  • packed size- same as regular grapefruit
  • requires only one additional stake
  • uses one of the original guylines at trekking pole attachment point
  • provides 7-12sq ft of covered space depending on configuration (see photos)
  • does not interfere with tent vent (see photos)
