Would somebody else please post a thread here.

SO I've been looking at Hammocks. I basically have never liked hammocks, but here in Oregon the pine trees are so thick that theres no place to pitch a tent near a lake except for the traditional camping spot which is no longer legal. (thanks forest service) that I figured maybe hanging above the brush and rocks would beat trying to find a tent spot.

Then it dawned on me that if I'm at a lake around here I will probably have my canoe. My 11.5' old town solo canoe is about 30" wide in the middle and the stay and the seat can both be removed by pulling out 6 bolts that I can put wing nuts on.
If I make a new front stay that comes up above the gunwale, I can make a tent to go over the front of the canoe. I can then put in the (New raised) rear stay and pull a mosquito net/rain cover over the rear of the canoe. Then I sleep on the bottom of the canoe on my air mattress. The canoe could be afloat or pulled up onto a level, if not smooth spot near the shore.

I think sleeping in the canoe would beat a hammock. I also like to sleep in sailboats, so sleeping on the water, even adrift, could be very cool. I've heard of "canoeing" in the Yukon, taking a nap in the bottom of the canoe, and waking up looking at a grizzly, hoping the current will carry you on.
I'll post photos.
