When I moved from Pennsylvania to Henderson, Nevada (Las Vegas valley) in 2004 at age 61 I found this site and it changed my entire outlook on 3 season backpacking!

My significant Lightweight purchases were:

SLEEPING BAG> W.M. Megalite

TENT> TarpTent Contrail (W/ MSR Groundhog aluminum stakes)

WATER TREATMENT> SteriPen Adventurer & Katadyn chlorine dioxide tablets

PACK> REI Cruise UL 60 W. REI side pockets added (Went to 3.5 lbs from my Dana Teraplane pack at 7.75 lbs.!)

HEADLAMP> Ion single LED W/ 3 coin batteries - tiny but effective

STOVE> Vargo JetTi canister burner or Vargo Triad XE Ti base for ESBIT/FireLite fuel tabs, depending on how much climbing and altitude I'm doing. (ESBIT for tough hikes)

BOOTS> Danner 453 (not light at 2.8 lbs /pair but lightER and comfortable)

RAIN GEAR> Cabela's GTX PacLite parka (and pants, seldom carried)

Eric

Oh, yeah, a 7 day trip with food and 3 liters of water weighs in at 35 lbs. Notta too bad.

Yes, I'm obviously a Lightweight backpacker, not a ULer.
