By theh 80's gear and levels of climbing were changing quickly. I do not think many climbers in the 60's and early 70's did much athletic training. There was no indoor gym climbing. Sport climbing had not really started. The old gear was not that reliable so there was the constraint that the "leader should not fall".

Yosemite is still one of my favorite places to go (I live close) even though I no longer rock climb. It also is a wonderful place to backpack and day-hike. It is fun to see all the new young climbers and talk to them. I still love to camp at Camp 4.
