Has anyone here tried quinoa flakes as a starch base for add-boiling-water meals?

I discovered they exist in a quinoa cook book. I like quinoa, especially the extra protein, but it took too long to cook on the trail (cook it and dry it works, but it's an extra step). The flakes work just like couscous or mashed potato powder or ramens or minute rice. You just add boiling water, cozy the pot (or freezer bag) for a little while and eat.

So far, my experiments seem to be working well. The taste is good with most of the proteins I mix with it. The taste seems to be a little bit blander than the cooked kernels, but it's as good or better than couscous or rice (and a whole lot better than ramens). I'm going to try making a curry with it for a little bit more protein, but haven't done that yet.

After discovering they exist, I found a box in a health food store.

I'd be interested in any other experiences.

best, jcp
