Oh, I can....early on, I learned that scooching a lit alky stove can exhale the coolest flareup fireball you ever did see! Esbit (what I use now-a-days) doesn't do that and you can blow it out or smother it. Some alky stoves are smothereable by capping them off...a giant valve? Others just get agrivated and puke up a fireball and raw fuel into the grass. The valve thing would effect wood stoves too...can't turn them off quickly.
