Maybe this belongs in the kids section..

So, this weekend, I am taking my boy scouts out for a short 5 mile hike. But, I have one problem. There is a boy in the troop that doesn't have a pack, and his dad is out of a job. The real problem is that he is really small. He is 13, and my 8 year old daughter is the same size. She is also small for her age (her mom is short, so it is genetic). I have an extra pack, and another leader has an extra pack, but they aren't children's packs. I took my pack, and adjusted the suspension to the lowest setting, then had him try it on. It looks a hair too big for him. So, the question, will it work if I add extra padding to the waist belt and shoulder straps? Has anyone done this? Any other suggestions? Thanks.
