I want to make one of those "Beverage Can Stoves".

The instructions say "This stove is designed to burn only denatured alcohol or absolute ethanol".

Does "Everclear" qualify as absolute ethanol?

I have 2 bottles of that rot gut that I'm never going to drink.

Bill

Yes, everclear is ethanol. It comes in at least 2 concentrations, 75% and 95%. The other part is water.

Denatured alcohol is mostly ethanol (usually 95%) and part methanol as a denaturing agent.

ethanol contains 11,500 BTU's per lb
methanol contains 8600 BTU's per lb

methanol is a little better in colder weather as its boiling point is lower than ethanol 65*C vs 78*C however this matters mostly for pressurized stoves. (I used a wick based stove with denatured alcohol at -16*C with no problems at all.)
