Ugh. and if you were in the park you'd have been forbidden the use of the solution I used for the singing redneck problem too..

Sounds like story time phat....do tell. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Not that much to tell. The camp gun for bear issues at the time was an M1A (an semi-auto M-14) with a 20 round stick of .308 loaded. At about 3:30 I'd had enough, got up, took the camp gun, put in my earplugs, proceeded to yell and panic screaming "bear bear" lots of foul language, and the better part of 20 rounds of .308 popped off rapidly into the air.. I took out my earplugs and went to sleep (they were quiet other than some muted and surprised foul language as the shooting stopped)

I ran into them heading out at 2 pm the next day while I was coming back in from a morning jaunt,
they asked if I was camped where I was with the deer hanging in camp, and asking about the noise in the middle of the night. I just said "yeah, we had a big bear come in after our hanging meat. and he was ornery. I think we wounded him though.. you should keep an eye out" - they were quiet
the rest of their evenings (or at least, they didn't wake me up <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> )

I suspect the M-14 would be frowned upon by the Yosemite wardens.. Not to mention it weighs darn near what the base weight for my backpack is these days - makes a bear canister look light anyway <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
