I bought an Entrant DT jacket on sale and on one of the hang tags it mentioned moisture permeability using the "upright cup" and "inverted cup" method.
Does anyone (Jason maybe) have an idea what this is talking about? It's obviously related to a Japanese testing method for "breathability" called JIS L1099 B1, but Google didn't spit out a decent description.
Upright cup, JIS L1099 A1 is probably the standard "put fabric over a lab beaker, heat and look how much water evaporates over a set time", but I am not sure how inverting the beaker would work.
On a side note: after wearing it around town for a few days, I guess Entrant DT is somewhere between Gore Paclite and eVent in breathability. But the interior texture is much nicer than the current Paclite smear and closer to the old dot pattern Paclite. I'll know more after the ski trip next weekend.
Thanks Jason. I didn't quite get the method from the first link, but the Google search you suggested brought up a Torey specification page which has a pretty good description. The use of desiccants to "pull" the water through the surface is pretty slick.

When this post first started, I looked at it and decided it was too technical for my aged brain. However, when I spotted the title today I had the same reaction as MNS, and read the rest of the thread. Our female minds must think alike--not just in Alaska!
I was thinking it had to do with a sports bra for inverted nipples. No, I don't want to know what you were thinking.
