Thanks, everyone, for the help!! As a test, I switched to an aluminum can from some tomato puree or such and it boiled a cup of water like a champ. So, it must have been my bowl...I would have never thought. Thanks again!!

Excellent! Make sure you say "dryer altoids stove" so all the royalty checks get made out right....

The conductivity of aluminum is about 10-15 times that of stainless steel. It also probably weighs quite a bit less, so a lot less heat will go into heating it up. If the output of your stove is marginal, something like that can make a difference.

Titanium isn't a very good conductor, either. Now, if you could find a pot made of copper or silver foil...

Well, you know, I made one minor alteration that seems to help eliminate (or at least slow) the wear and tear of the stove due to the flame, and I made my own custom windscreen...I wonder if I post these and people like them if I'd start getting royalty checks? I could always use some extra $...even if it's just someone's $0.02.

Describe the windscreen....you might be in 'patent infringment' territory.

Seriously, what'd you do? I've used aluminum and brass screen, both with like results.

Actually, when one posts a design...stove or otherwise, be prepaired to start getting 'customer service' emails. That will burn up your .02 cent royalty pretty quick.

It's a windscreen that takes the place of the pot holder...so it's a 2-in-1 type of thing. Others may or may not like it, but I'll get some pics and such up as soon as time permits to see if anyone likes it.

That is really cool... I made it exactly like you said and love it. I use it to make tea and coffee. Thanks!

Very cool.I taught my scouts the famous tuna can stove but this sounds like something that can be reused with minimal maintainence,

Hi, it;s me, cheap. It's been so long I forgot my real username and password, so I have a different username. Surprised to see this old thread come up again. b
