Curiosity question. What is the difference between a descender ring and a welded steel ring?

A quality descender ring is a one piece forging, typically aluminum, not welded. Welded rings can be used for hammock suspensions and I've used them on tree huggers. Just check the quality of the weld.

Thanks. Welded rings are more readily available to me, and the weight isn't that disturbing. I have used them before in the various suspension systems I've tried with no issues.

Some of the cheaper welded rings have spot welds and are really just for decorative use. If you don't see an obvious melt zone in the weld, be careful.
