I'm hesitating between the Nemo Hornet 2P and the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2.

The Nemo is slightly ligher in spite of side doors, which is amazing
I also read excellent things about the sturdiness of the Big Agnes under heavy rain and wind.

None is fully freestanding, but almost

Has anybody experience with them or an even better choice, preferably truly freestanding and nothing above 2lb 6oz packed weight?

Thanks

I have the FC2 Platinum and two seasons of use. It requires quite a few stakes when the fly is used, but I also leave the fly off on mild nights. It's tight but workable for two and spacious for one. The front entrance isn't as convenient, especially with the fly closed all the way.

So there are tradeoffs for the light weight but they're mostly worth it. Will add that it fits into tight spaces many tents won't.

Cheers,

I've been using the Fly Creek Platinum 1 and really like it so far. It's right at 2 pounds (or a few ounces lighter), and there is the issue about the drip line on the vestibule allowing water to drip inside the tent - but if you don't camp frequently in the rain, it's fine. I've been comfortable in it, and I always thought I was a dyed-in-the-wool side-entry guy. I may have been converted. (Of course, I've also got my Copper Spur UL1, just in case.)

Tarptent, I own the Moment which only requires 2 stakes or can be freestanding with an additional pole. I believe that even with that pole it comes in at 2 lbs 5 oz. If you look around this site and other backpacking forums you will find the Tarptent brand to be very well recognized as a top end product.
