Hello! New user here. Wanted to say hello and give a thread to get to know each other a bit. I'm going to cruise around, read, figure things out and so on.

I'm heading out on a solo four day backpacking trip next week, the first solo trip of that length that I've gone on. I'll probably over pack a bit so I'm reaching out make sure I throw in a bit of sanity.

Hello, and I look forward to interacting.

Welcome!

Ohio in December sounds like jumping in with both feet. Have fun and pack your longjohns.

Cheers,

Let's see, December in Ohio: expect rain, snow, sunshine, clouds, heat, and cold. Then, on the second day... smile

Michael - what part of Ohio? I'm around Dayton.

Dayton area as well. Just North in Vandalia.

Yes, exactly! Makes it difficult to pack without over packing.

Hi, neighbor. Been to the Twin Valley Trail yet?

Yes I go to TVT here and there. Usually park in the overnight Boomershine and camp at Cedar Ridge. They are adding an additional overnight parking spot as well, didn't know if you are aware of that.

There is an organized Frozen Butt Hang at a group site on Jan 23rd, don't know if you are a hammock camper or not.

No, I've not been able to get comfortable in one yet. I like the idea, though. Andrew (at Great Miami Outfitters) keeps trying to convert me. Of course, the last time I let him talk me into winter camping with him ("It'll be great, Glenn; temperature is supposed to be around twenty all weekend") it hit zero overnight...
Glad to hear they're adding another parking area; gives some better options for overnighters. TVT is growing on me, if for no other reason than I can decide at 3pm on Friday to go, and be on the trail by 5:30. (Quick drive from Centerville.) Not spectacular, but it's the woods and it's pleasant and it's outside.

Great Miami Outfitters (Anthony is the organizer) is who is hosting the event on the 23rd. I'm heading in on the 22nd to Cedar Ridge with a few others and will make our way to the group site the next day.

For a hammock it takes being shown a few generic ways most people lay in them and then you fiddle until you find your spot but then it's oh so comfy. I also stay far warmer in one during cold weather. However some never feel right in it so it's not the end of the world of course.
