Have any of you used rental companies for gear, especially when you first started out backpacking/hiking/snowshoeing? I used these guys to rent a Delorme InReach Explorer for my HST hike and they were great. Any bad or good experiences with this company or others?

Here's a link to my full review:

REI still has a rental counter but confess I haven't had to use it for years--too much stuff in the house already. One has to live within driving distance, of course, so a rent-by-mail service has a lot of potential customers.

Cheers,

I would prefer to use my local university because it's nice to not have to ship stuff, but the variety equipment is limited, as is their knowledge/experience (young, student workers).
