Calling for all experienced backpackers!
I am going backpacking soon in Europe, and I'm super excited--but I've never travelled alone.

Traveling alone makes it hard to figure out what exactly to do in a foreign country. How do you find fun things to do and where to go on the road?

I think you belong on Lonely Planet or some site that talks about that other kind of backpacking where you're traveling on busses and trains.

When we backpack, we walk a lot, set up a tent, fish, build a campfire, and watch the stars. The night life tends to be crickets and bears, maybe a mouse.

As Lori mentions, this site is about wilderness trekking, not budget travel. Other highlights in our night life here are hooting owls and (in fall) bugling elk.

I suggest you read some guidebooks, such as Lonely Planet and Rough Guide. For general info, you don't need the latest edition, so start with your local library.

Staying at hostels is a great way to meet people.
