It's always nice to get new gear, I hope it all works out for you!

Yep, nice to get new gear. Some of that, there are good options to have saved a minimum of 40% of the weight, but you were on a budget. My first tent was 4.75 lbs. for the dogs and I and I used a $35 Camptrails bp for years since the mid 70's. I just retired my 20 year old 5.5? lb. winter pack. Down quilts can be had for around $200 or so. Get out there and enjoy the outdoors anyway.

Shoot I can't bring up good map of Idaho showing places I've hiked and where they are in relation to Boise....but I loved the Selway Crags!!!! And I totally loved the sawtooths...backpacked in both of those. More solitude for sure in the Selway Crags....both beautiful tho...
