My son (as most of you already know) loves hiking, camping, fishing, backpacking. So I've bought myself plenty of gear, gifted old gear to people who want to start backpacking, and now I have, for me, a great set up. But I was feeling a bit guilty because my new Zimmerbuilt pack weighs less than my son's REI comet pack.

So I decided or umm Santa decided it was time for my son to upgrade. Santa really knows his stuff. He went cottage and managed to get a mountain laurel designs prophet for kids!

A whoppen 10 ozs! A full 2lbs lighter than his REI pack. All day he has talked about what big hikes are we doing this year. He would be a perfect candidate for the a good through hike. I think this year we'll hike from Kennedy meadows to cottonwood. ( in the sierras). And few 3-4 day trips, and a week deer hunting. We are shooting for a solid 30 nights under the stars this next season.

Next weekend we are heading to Death Valley for a bit of winter car camping and day hikes.

I'm so lucky to have a wonderful son who loves to spend time with me, outside, far from the hustle and bustle.

He's looking really excited to hit the trails with you.

That's just cool all over. I mean, you getting the cottage made gear and him being so excited to get it. He obviously knows his gear because I lot of kids would've been bummed if it didn't have Logo on it that impressed their friends.

Good job Santa!

He is excited and even talk about our planned trips. He just told me the longer the better. We took all of his gear and packed it all up then weighed it,5.2lbs! I'm sure a bit more after he adds a few "essentials" I love the time we spend together. Best hiking partner ever!

Pretty cool Tyson. He does look happy. Most kids don't want to do anything with the old folks, wanting to hang out with friends or play video games.
I put a few winter pics up on that other site.
