I was wondering if anyone here has used the Nextorch Ecostar headlamp? It looks like it would be a great little light.

The specs don't say if this headlamp is regulated so it can use lithium batteries. Lithium batteries are lighter, last longer and are especially superior in cold weather. Having a regulator also means that the light doesn't dim until it's time to change the batteries. These are what I look for in a headlamp. Your Mileage May Vary, of course.

I do not think it is regulated. Seems to be its only downfall.

Have never seen one in person, but it looks pretty basic for anything beyond putting around in camp. I'd keep looking, as there are about 0.5 gazillion LED headlamps these days.

cheers,

I suspect you might want to look at specs for the "standard" brands people use for hiking for comparison. Petzl and Princeton Tek are the two of the most common, I believe, but there are others. There is quite a bit of info about headlamps in the Backcountry Gadgets section. To do a search, first read the "sticky" at the top of the General Discussion section. Oops, the recent ones in BC Gadgets are mostly about GPS; go back to page 6 for several headlamp posts.

Remember that you might have to rely on the headlamp for a night hike occasionally. It still happens to me that I occasionally misjudge the time needed to reach a destination, especially on short "shoulder season" days.
